FJORD GEIRANGER
Festival of light art
Geiranger, Norway
Annual
Fjord Geiranger is a unique art and nature experience that transforms Geiranger into a large-scale, outdoor light art landscape.
With a magical atmosphere created by light art in nature, Fjord Geiranger invites everyone to a social, strong and inclusive experience of art, light and nature in one of the most spectacular destinations in Norway.
Fjord Geiranger is a light art festival where site-specific works of art use nature: the mountainsides, waterfalls, water and trees as important elements in art. Fjord Geiranger collaborates with renowned Norwegian and international artists and invites the audience to an inspiring art and nature experience of wonder and reflection. By creating a unique and spectacular cultural experience during the winter months in Geiranger, the festival highlights Geiranger's unique landscape in an inspiring and innovative way not only in Norway, but also internationally.
Fjord Geiranger's vision is to become an annual cultural magnet for a unique winter destination, give the audience a unique experience that fuses art and nature and help the local community in the process of becoming sustainable all year round.
TRACES, the concept for the first edition of Fjord Geiranger, was inspired by water. Using light, video art and sound, TRACES interpreted and conveyed Geiranger's history where the unique landscape has been formed by water for millions of years.
